Steps to
Buying a Home

Homework

Homework is part of the process . . . that we're embarking on together. One of the first things I recommend is that you contact a lender who can advise you about current financing programs, interest rates and the loan amount you qualify for. Lending guidelines became much more strict during 2007 and that trend continues. I strongly suggest that you look to local banks for your mortgage needs and avoid independent mortgage brokers (unless you know them well) and internet offerings.

The buyers' pages on this site . . . will guide you through the steps we'll take to get to your new home. They'll be particularly useful for first-time buyers but if it's been awhile since you bought your home you may want to review them.

The Connecticut Association of Realtors (CAR) publishes an excellent guide for homebuyers. I consider it to be required reading for my clients, whether or not you've owned real estate in the past. Click here to open the PDF file.

CAR and the Connecticut Department of Public Health offer a comprehensive 64 page booklet titled Environmental Hazards in the Home. Click here.
