Steps to
Buying a Home

First Meeting

At our first meeting . . . I'll be asking a lot of questions and doing a lot of listening. I need to know a good bit about what you're looking for in your new home, what your lifestyle is, your monthly housing budget, your school requirements, your commuting and recreational preferences and much more. But before that happens . . .

The first question I must ask . . . is, "Are you working with another agent?" If you've signed a contract (a Buyer Agency or Buyer Broker Agreement) with any other agent, I'm legally and ethically bound not to interfere with that relationship. If you're interested in an H. Pearce listing, your agent should contact the Pearce listing agent for more information about the property.

If you're not committed to another agent . . . I'll review the standard Buyer Agency Agreement with you. You don't need to sign it on the spot. I'm free to show you any of my firm's listings without having the agreement in place but I'm not legally allowed to show other broker's listings unless I have a contract with you.

This excerpt from Buying a Home, published by the Connecticut Association of Realtors, provides a thorough explanation of the different ways in which you can work with a Realtor.

Once we've agreed on the approach we're going to take, we can really begin the process of finding your home.
